  • Having held a class C licence for at least one year, excluding a learner's permit.
  • Be successful on the Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test
  • Pass the eye test
  • Either pass a heavy vehicle driving exam or successfully finish the HVCBA.

2. Medium Rigid Licence:

Persons who want to obtain a Medium Rigid driver's licence should take this course. You can operate a vehicle with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of more than 8 tonnes and no more than 2 axles if you have an MR licence. Your likelihood of obtaining a medium stiff licence is increased by having plenty of driving practice time and theoretical and practical learning exercises.

Procedure for applying MR licence:

  • Applying for a medium rigid licence requires that you:
  • Possess a valid Northern Territory (NT) driver's licence.
  • Possess a class C or a light rigid driver's licence and have had it for at least a year.
  • A driver with a heavy vehicle (HV) licences with the same class or higher may teach you how to operate an MR vehicle.

3. Heavy Rigid Licence:

HR Licence in Brisbane vehicles include buses and trucks with three or more axles and a GVM of more than eight tones. No towed trailer shall be heavier than 9 tonnes. Although articulated, these trucks are handled like rigid ones.

Procedure for applying HR licence:

  • It possesses a valid Northern Territory (NT) driver's licence.
  • A class C driving permits for at least two years,
  • Licence for light or medium rigidity for at least a year
  • A driver with a heavy vehicle licences with the same class or higher can teach you how to operate an HR vehicle.

4. Heavy Combination Licence:

HC vehicle licence includes cars and trucks with three or more axles, and it has the combinations of heavy rigid vehicles and trailers, such as an unladen dolly, with three or more axles. Any towable trailer with a GVM more excellent than 9 tonnes vehicles come under an HC licence.

Procedure for applying HC licence:

  • Currently possesses a driver's license for the Northern Territory.
  • Possess a medium or heavy rigid license for at least one year.
  • Drivers with the same or higher heavy vehicle (HV) license can learn how to operate HC vehicles.

5. Multi Combination Licence:

Specific regulations and criteria apply if you possess a multi-combination licence in NSW. The National Driver Licensing System is responsible for setting these regulations. The most advanced type of licence class is an MC. With the exception of motorbikes, this licence class permits you to operate any vehicle. The MC vehicle consists of B-doubles, prime movers, combination low loader dolly and trailers, and road trains.

  • Be sure you can meet the requirements for a mandatory MC licence.
